Joint International Research Units

The joint international research unit RICE (« Rice Functional Genomics and Plant Biotechnology ») was set up in 2011.

This research unit is associated with USTH and is hosted on the Institute of agro-genetics (IGA) premises belonging to the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VAAS); it is supported by IRDInstitut de Recherche pour le Développement and Montpellier 2 University (UM2) in France.

It is led by Pr Do Nang Vinh and  Pr. Pascal Gantet (UM2) ; it includes researchers from IGA, from the national Key Laboratory of Plant Cell Biotechnology together with IRDInstitut de Recherche pour le Développement UMRs  DIADE (Plant Diversity Adaptation and Development) and RPB (Defence mechanisms of plants to bioagressors) researchers.

The joint international research unit conducts its research work in partnership with various Vietnamese Institutes such as the Plant Genetic Resources Institute and the Plant Protection Research Institute or with CIRAD in France. It is part of a wider international cooperation network on rice, namely the Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP) which is recognized for its leading far-reaching international programs supported by the Consultative Group on International Agriculture Research (CGIAR).

The research programs carried out by the joint international research unit (LMI RICE) mainly focus on rice; they also foster the development of new projects in Plant biotechnologies. The joint international research unit site plays host to the tutorials in Plant Biotechnology which are part of the Master’s degree in Biotechnology- Pharmacology curriculum.
